Geology in China was established in 1953, bimonthly. It is featured by the applied-academic and devoted to reflecting state-level high-level research, with focus on results of comprehensive guiding related large-scale geological surveys and state-level key scientific and technological projects. It is one of the few geoscience journals with a long history and long-standing reputation in China.

For years, it has published papers on regional geology, metal and non-metal, oil and gas, water resources exploration, engineering stability evaluation, environmental change monitoring, etc., and made important contributions to the development of the geological industry.

In recent years, it still publishes papers covering the whole field of geology. Its main authors are from China Geological Survey, the largest geological survey agency in China with more than 500 employees with doctoral degrees. Each year, the state invests 10 billion yuan to set up major geological projects to carry out surveys, producing 400-600 papers every year.

The content covers the latest achievements in global geology, such as: hydrate test, late shale, graphite assessment, all geological data and so on. It gives priority to publish content that other publications do not have.

The papers in the journal are mainly from today's geological work and scientific research, it is highly time-sensitive and leading. New discoveries, new technologies, new data, and new ideas are endless. Many of the papers are linked to the Geo-data Center of the China Geodetic Bureau (eg, 1:200,000 Geological Map of China, Hydrogeological Map of China, etc.) and realized the journal and the database to become a family.

At present, it is included in 17 databases (such as: Scopus, GeoBase, CA, CSA, GR, AJ, ZR, CNKI, etc.). It has built a good communication platform for the world's geoscientists to understand the achievements and current status of China's geological surveys and geological research.
