Re-Os Isotopic Dating of Molybdenite from the Shankou Molybdenum Deposit in Yongding County of Fujian Province and Its Geological Significance

  • The Shankou molybdenum deposit in Yongding is one of the molybdenum deposits with great progress in geological and mineral exploration in recent years. The mine area is located in the complex place of south part of the northeast (NE)-north-northeast (NNE) Wuyishan tectonic belt and the east part of the latitudinal Nanling tectonic belt. It is at the northwestern margin of Early Jurrasic volcanic eruption Hulei Basin which is controlled by the northwest Shanghang-Yunxiao fault. Until now, it is the only discovered middle scale molybdenum deposit occurring in the Early Jurrasic volcanic rocks and pyroclastic sedimentary rocks. In this papar, the Re-Os isochron age of (165.3±3.5) Ma for molybdenite samples from drilling holes was obtained. It suggests this deposit formed in the Early Yanshanian period and there is similar mineralization between the Nanling metallogenetic belt and the Wuyushan metallogenetic belt. It provides a new orientation for ore-prospecting in the metallogenetic belts with the similar mineralization to the Nanling metallogenetic belt.
