INFLUENCE OF AN ARTIFICIAL HEADLAND ON BATHING BEACH: A CASE FROM THE MOON BAY BEACH, LONGKOU

  • The headline beach is a kind of most widely distributed coastal morphology in the world. The morphological characteristics of the beach are the result of long-term coastal erosion. Before the Moon Bay beach was built in 2005, this region is a part of the straight shoreline of the Longkou barrier-lagoon system which was under erosion and the erosion speed was 3m/a. After the two artificial headlands were built up, the cape beach turned to a state of slow deposition with a speed of 1.5m/a, and now it is under a balanced status. The positional profile measurement data collected from March 2013 to January 2014 shows that the volume change of Moon Bay beach is about 17m3/m. The parabolic model and Mepbay software were used for simulating the beach morphology, and the results indicate that the shape of Moon Bay beach is basically under equilibrium。
