Abstract

Abstract

Deep seabed rock drill is a complex system consisting of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, optical and other components. It is used to take rock samples at a fixed position of the deep sea bottom, and therefore, is specially useful in mineral exploration and geological survey in the deep sea. The deep seabed rock drill equipped on the vessel of "HAI YANG 6" is an advanced deep sea sampling equipment with the power supplied by an opto-electric composite cable. As for its first application in Chinese marine geological survey, three rock and two sediment samples were collected with it, that have provided useful basic data for the further research of mineral resources in the South China Sea.
