CURRENT STATUS AND FUTURE TREND OF GEOLOGICAL MAP COMPILATION

Abstract
Geological map, as an efficient tool to present and summarize geological survey results, is a kind of geological information indispensable for economic and social development, and has attracted great attention from the governments and the public all over the world. The rapid development of related technology in the recent years, such as mapping techniques, remote sensing, GIS and map making and printing technology, has provided great technical support for map compilation. The new trend of map compilation in the world focuses more and more on multi-purpose application, popularity, diversity of mapping methods, multidisciplinary cooperation and intercontinental coverage. In this paper, we introduced some of the key progress in geological map compilation, such as the design of geographic base map, presentation of geological elements, grid GIS platform, InSAR, and the construction and management of geological map database. Problems and challenges concerning geological map compilation were also discussed.-
