COAST CONFIGURATION AND STABILITY OF JIHU BEACH, ZHOUSHAN

  • The parabolic model has been widely used to determine the coastal configuration and stability in evaluation of the static equilibrium of the morphology of a bay. We adopted the model in this paper to study the coastal morphology and stability of the Jihu sandy beach in Zhoushan, China, based on the analysis of erosional and depositional pattern and the calculation of alongshore sediment transport. The results indicate that the coastline configuration of the Jihu beach is approaching a steady state. The middle part of the coast is rather stable, and the northwest part of the coast is under slight deposition, while heavy deposition might occur in the southeast corner. The results from the parabolic modeling are in consistent with the results from other two methods. It suggests that the model could produce a reasonable result and be suitable for evaluation of coastal morphology on the Jihu sandy beach.
