Abstract

Abstract

As a part of the Fundamental Database for Geological Survey in China, the Marine Geology Database is one of the specific components of the national program on land digitization. The objective of the database is to digitize the results of regional marine geology survey so as to establish a fundamental marine database for the sea areas under Chinese jurisdiction, which include the East China Sea, South China Sea, Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea. In this article, we briefed the background, general principles and guidelines and its current status of the database focusing on planning, construction and suggestions for future development. Our experiences accumulated in the construction of the database are also presented. It may provide a useful reference to other projects on database development.
