Determination of the reverse period of Songliao Basin, China

  • The tectonic reverse of Songliao Basin has contributed to the formation and migration of oil and gas, as well as their accumulation. Based on the previous work, some researchers suggested that the development of the Songliao Basin during its late stage had experienced the late deposition stage of Nenjiang Group (LN), late deposition stage of Mingshui Group (LM), and the multistages reverse during Early Tertiary. In this paper, according to the structural analysis on the features of both surface and subsurface of the northern Songliao Basin, it reveals that the the late deposition stage of Nenjiang Group was characterized by the south-northwards differential uplifting, which didn't result into folding of the terrane and changing of the tectonic frame, but accounted for the formation of the extensional unconformity. During late deposition stage of Mingshui Group, the evolution of Songliao Basin has experienced the variation from extension to compression which resulted in the west-eastwards shortening and a series of reverse structures. The reverse evolution during the late deposition stage of Mingshui Group is significant on the formation of current structures of Songliao Basin. According to the tectonophysical modeling, the heterogeneous reverse evolution of Songliao Basin can be concentrated in the late deposition stage of Mingshui Group.
