GEOMORPHOLOGIC FEATURES OF THE BEACH-DUNE SYSTEM ALONG FUJIAN COAST

  • Based on the observation of 25 main beach-dune systems along the coast of Fujian province and the repeated measurement of typical coastal dune and beach profiles from July 2007 to February 2010, we studied the morphodynamics of the beach-dune system and its relation with the coastal hydrodynamic conditions of the macro-tidal environment. It is concluded as follows:(1) the beach-dune morphological changes can be grouped into 3 types, ①the stable beach with changing dunes, ②the erosional beach with stable dunes, and ③ the erosional beach with retreating dunes; (2) the relationship between beach morphodynamics and dune morphology can be summarized into 6 basic types, including three major types of beach superimposed by different dunes. The interaction of dune morphology and sedimentation is also a controlling factor of the beach morphology to certain extent.
