22 drilling holes and 47 scarp profiles were collected from the West Bank of the Bohai Sea for study of characteristics, distribution pattern and depositional environment of the Holocene. The Holocene in the area consists of unconsolidated terrestrial, marine and transitional deposits in various origin, such as alluvial, lacustrine and marine sediments. Upon the influence of sea level changes and tectonic movement, the sediments moved spatially with time and formed 3 wedge-like patterns in the region. Vertically, the sediments usually show fining-up rhythms with local reversed rhythms resulted from sea level variation.
