The application of integrated geophysical method to karst pipeline distribution

Abstract
To predict and evaluate the impact of the Red Mud Stack Yard on groundwater system after the mud dump was completed, the integrated geophysical techniques, which primarily consist of common offset seismic reflection and electrical resistivity tomography and is assisted by the natural electric field method, were used to investigate the characteristics of karst underground and pipeline distribution at the site.As a resuit, the cover layer thickness of the entire dump yard was determined;five fracture zones and their strikes were confirmed respectively;fourteen geophysical prospecting anomalous zones were delineated;and the karst pipeline distribution features and groundwater flow direction were preliminarily identified.By combining the integrated geophysical techniques with the drilling results,it was found that the karst development in the study area is characterized by the shallow vertical type. The shallow karst is well developed at the depth of about 0-10 m below the surface.Besides, there is also some deep karstic features were identified at the depth of about 40-50 m below the surface, beyond this depth karst development becomes rare and weak.
